Miss Teen Northern NS - a Sweet and Daily description of the divine experiences of Adriaana Michels while she learns and describes the ways of a Miss Teen Canada - World pageant contestant!

About Me

My name is Adriaana Michels. I am thirteen years of age and live in Joggins NS.  I attend River Hebert District High which has approximately 130 kids.  I love soccer, reading, writing, drawing, diving, baking, swimming, piano, singing, modeling, photography and much more!

I am a person who loves to express her opinion openly, and fairly, but also respectfully, when it is asked for.  I plan to use this characteristic to become a human rights lawyer.

I entered the Miss Teen Canada - World pageant without any expectations, except that I would try my best.                  I have never been in a pageant before (and never honestly thought I'd be in one!) but when I saw how much this organization believed in charity, education and stood for a belief that every young Canadian girl around the world should love herself for who she is, I knew that I would enjoy taking part.  To be continued...

First we couldn't find a convertable for the parade but at last second we pulled through and found a beautiful ride to tow me around Joggins!!

Then the bottle drive...unfortunately not many people showed up but in the end we raised approx. $900!!!! (thanks to Joan Reid and her helpful team!)

Today we found lovely clothes at Second Edition, and Leslie Jane donated yet another three ENTIRE outfits to me! YAY!

Now its just a matter of Hotel arrangments and last minute things before heading off to the big city!!!

I have been updating a lot on whats going on in the fund raising category, and have not yet expressed my feelings for the pageant itself and how my time was in Halifax.

So I have decided to use this text as an opportunity to describe my time in Halifax.

So here goes!

The First Pageant

On the Thursday before the pageant (which was to take place Saturday -I did not know this at the time-) my mother remembered about how she had signed me up for a Miss Teen Canada-World pageant and how I had never received, nor remembered, my phone interview. So my mother (being curious) decided to call up Michelle Weswaldi (a woman who's number had been given to us for information purposes) and asked about when the pageant was and if  I could still have my phone interview, Michelle then told my mother about how the pageant was two days away, but that if I was willing to, I could still have the interview. So that day I went straight to my mom's office off the bus and had my interview. (Later I was asked how the interview went, what I was asked, and how I responded, but I honestly could not remember a single thing! I had been so nervous!)

My mother was e-mailed 25 minutes later with a congratulations and a few pages of information.

I had been accepted!

There was only one day left to fund raise, get my clothes and think about what I was going to have to do. The next day we were off to Halifax with everything we needed in hand. The pageant rehearsal was so much fun, Sean Cuffie was an especially good choreographer and taught us everything we needed to know, including an opening number dance which was TONS of fun!

All of a sudden it was the day of the pageant we had a few rehearsal's then our hair was done and we had another dress rehearsal, and some lunch and it was time to go!

The pageant went over well, and we especially enjoyed hearing last year's girls talk about their experiences and accomplishments, the only thing that went even a little wrong was the fact that i tripped on my dress! Its all over now I thought Oh well, it was fun while it lasted It was alright though I didn't mind the fact that I tripped and I was a lot less nervous after that, and so we stood with heads held high in a row waiting for the girls who made it to Toronto to be awarded. Michelle stood at a podium reading out names of the girls and their titles and then it was time for the third girl to be called up. "Would you like to go to Toronto?" she started "Adriaana Michels!" there was a split second of silence and I heard from the audience in the front row my mom say "Oh my God!" and then they started to clap and I walked up to get my flowers and tiara (which was presented to me by last years Miss Teen Nova Scotia Iona McLeod) and I was bursting inside!

When the awards were finished being given out everybody said goodbye and hugged and took pictures and even videos, we were each spoken to separately and given a booklet explaining what was needed for Toronto and we left and said good night, it was only then that I realized I'm going to Toronto to compete for MISS TEEN CANADA!!!!!

and so here I am! fundraising and working towards my goal of becoming Miss Teen Canada-World!
